Aileron Servo Mount
Modification
| You can use their way of
mounting the aileron servo with double-sided foam tape, but I opted
for a slightly different approach... an enhancement really.
After following their directions, but before taping the servo in,
follow these directions. To build a simple
screw-down mounting shelf for the other side of the aileron servo, use a
scrap piece of 3/16"x1"x2" plywood. Glue it to the underside of the servo
hole, paralleled, and centered. Leave just enough room for the servo to fit in and still have
all 4 screw holes line up. Mark your servo holes carefully on the
ply. and then drill the 1/16" pilot holes. |
 |
 |
| Wedge a similar (but
properly sized) scrap piece of thick gray AirCore material up underneath
the ply. mount at a perpendicular angle (fitting snugly between it
and the
inside of the wing). Measure and cut it the
proper width so it stays in place, without bulging out the top of
the wing. Do a test fit. Glue it in place to provide extra support the ply. mount.

In the first picture the horizontal gray
strip below the ply. is not a shadow but the gray 6 mil. AirCore material,
at about a 90° angle to the ply. and inner wing surface.
You can still use the foam
tape below the servo if you want to.

Modification
Update 10/2004: After 10 flights it's apparent that the
modified mount is working fine. |
