US AirCore 40

Aircraft

This airplane is made from corrugated plastic (like they make durable signs from).  It's basically a commercial SPAD (Simple Plasic Airplane Design) with all the pieces cut-out and smaller hardware included.  It's very durable for a model airplane, and flies predictably.

Quick Specs:
Wingspan: 64 inches
Engine: OS .46FX
Channels: 4
Radio: Futaba 6EXA 6 Channel
Construct: Corrugated plastic
Weight: 7 lbs. (flight ready)
Prop: 10x6 Nylon
Notes: Cost was about $80.00 including wheels, prop., and spinner. At 7 lbs. this plane requires 14 rubber bands to hold the wing on properly.

AirCore 40 after 2 flights

This is my first plane. It was built from a flat box kit over a period of about a month, spending a couple of sessions a week on it.  You also need 3 rubber wheels, 10x6 propeller, 2 1/2" spinner, and fuel tubing. It was completed in July 2004.

Maintenance Record

Date Part - System Details
6/2004 Engine Ran new OS .46fx rich to break in. 2 tanks. Adj. needle valves. 15% fuel and A3 plug work best.
5/2005 All Season 2005 - Complete check-out
5/28/05 All Crash Evaluation: Radio is fine. Engine should be ok after a good cleaning. Fuel Tank popped apart ... Wing spar broken. Fuselage damage (Wooden Power-Cartridge broken in half, P.C. rails deformed, fuselage a little beat-up).
6/5/05 All AirCore Trainer 40 is being repaired. Engine checks good. Reassembled tank passed water dunk test. Re-glued pieces and added a piece of AirCore material to reinforce torn sections. Added 2 triangular and 2 rectangular pieces of 6 mil. inside (weak/torn) window area to hold rubber-band dowels down and in-place. Estimated time to fix/rebuild wing and replace P.C. and get it back to flying field: 2 weeks.
6/30/05 All I've been busy with work lately, but the AirCore is now repaired. I built a new Power-Cartridge . Total repair costs (for the P.C., prop. and spinner was $20). I plan to take it up next week. Update ... it was Returned-To-Flight
12/2005 All I needed the engine and radio from this plane to use in  another, so this airplane is temporarily inactive.
8/2006 All Retrieved plane from attic. Installed used OS .46, and basic Futaba 4-channel radio. Plane flew successfully (see Flight Log for more details).
